Horoscope Dreams

Do you believe in the power of the horoscope? I do. At least I hope they are an accurate interpretation of your day or future. Today my horoscope reads, "You are a designer. Perhaps you haven't been paid for this capacity of work, but you know that you're good at it. You will create something with style." That is reassuring!

Continuing on my mosaic theme, I thought I would share a project in progress. There is something gratifying about being able to re-purpose or recycle an item that in a previously well-used state, may have ended up in the dump. A few years ago, I created a garden flower pot holder out of a chair as a gift for my Mom. Because it was my first garden project, I kept it simple and stuck to paint. She loved it! And, it has earned a permanent place on her porch right by the front door for all guests to appreciate as they our welcomed to her home.

Naturally, my thoughts turned to creating another garden chair using mosaic tile. Here are the results so far...I am extremely excited about my progress. I have a feeling that I will have a difficult time parting with the garden chair when I am done! This project does not have a name yet, because I don't always have a "plan" per say, I usually don't create a name until my project is complete. However, I have color schemes that I am working in, and this chair is a "cool" themed project. I have also started painting another chair that will be a "warm" themed project.

I leave you with Colleen's quote of the day... "The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams." - Eleanor Roosevelt

Make it a "Rare Find" day!

"A Lab is Home at 52"

I have recently been in a mosaic mood after my dad helped my husband and I lay tile in our laundry room. There was quite a bit of leftover broken tile from the job and I refused to let my dad let perfect "art material" go to waste. I had vision of transforming the discarded bits into something beautiful for the garden and home decor. My first project was a house number flower pot for my front yard which I have named for obvious reasons..."A Lab is Home at 52". I was overjoyed with the results. Which is a good thing since I labored over this project for 3 days straight. The front of pot features our house numbers in black. But if you look on either side of the numbers you will see homage to my furry child, Samson. I am a pack rat and when I broke a Naylor lab designed bowl years ago I kept the pieces because I wanted to some day use it for something. The more traditional lab silhouette was hand formed based off a cookie cutter I own.

A New Day

Welcome to my new blog - A Rare Find Boutique & Studiohouse!

I am Colleen and I have a passion to create everyday in some way, even if it is just in my silly little head. My art journal is filled with ideas, thoughts, scribbles, drawings and creative goals.
I don't always know where my creative subconscious will take me but it is an amazing feeling to be surprised by the finish product. I was recently forced, for the first time in my adult life, to re-examine my career direction and to figure out what makes me happy and fulfilled. What is important to me? What should my next direction be? I am still trying to figure that out. But, in the meantime - I will continue to start new projects everyday and share my passion to create with others. Please check back often to see what I am working on or thinking about - Enjoy!

Col's Thought of the Day: "The future is unsure, but so is life. Isn't that what makes life worth living...the exploration into the unknown of a new day? Yea, I think so."

Make it a great day!
